Porcelanosa offers its associates eco-friendly tips to reduce electricity consumption
March 16, 2022
Climate change and the scarcity of natural resources are problems against which Porcelanosa has been fighting for years.
In addition to implementing eco-technologies in almost all its products, Porcelanosa has recently undertaken various projects to minimise the environmental impact of production.
Firstly, thanks to the GREENH2KER project in collaboration with Iberdrola, CO2 emissions will be reduced by 2,351 tonnes per year. Moreover, the Porcelanosa Group is currently reforesting the Portomé mine area by planting 10,400 trees, thus counteracting the erosion occurring in the vicinity.

As associates of Porcelanosa and part of this Business Group, it would be excellent if you implemented measures in your stores to contribute to the care of the planet by making responsible use of electricity.
How?
It’s very simple if you follow these guidelines:
Electricity can cause a lot of pollution, but it is absolutely necessary in the daily work of a store or showroom. The key is to use it responsibly and keep equipment well maintained to reduce its impact.
Avoid turning on lights when natural light is sufficient. The installation of large picture windows is an excellent way to prevent the abuse of artificial lighting.
LED lights should be used if possible, as they consume much less energy, while cleaning bulbs and fluorescent tubes regularly helps to maintain optimum lighting levels.
Turn off electrical appliances and lights when they are not being used. Computers, fans, printers… there are many electrical appliances that are used in the everyday working environment. Leaving them on when they are not being used leads to what is known as “phantom power” consumption. Turning them off when they are not in use is a small gesture that saves energy and is easy to make.
Choosing equipment and appliances with better energy ratings (Energy Efficiency class A) is a good investment, as well as a useful way to help the environment. However, it is again essential to maintain these items and all power installations to ensure they do not deteriorate and to prevent current leakage.
Heating and air conditioning should be adjusted to 20 degrees in winter and 22 degrees in summer. Each additional degree of heating/cooling can increase consumption by 7%. It’s a good idea to turn off heating and air conditioning half an hour before closing. The temperature will be maintained during this time and less electricity is used.
